Makulay ang buhay sa sinabawang malunggay

Biotechnologists of the Department of Agriculture believe the ultra nutritious malunggay or horseradish tree (Moringa oleifera L.), an ingredient in many Filipino dishes, would significantly improve the health of Filipinos–while providing a new agri-business opportunity for farmers.
Malunggay is making a golden comeback and promises to be “the next big thing” in Philippine agriculture biotechnology, said Alicia Ilaga, director of the DA Biotechnology Program, during the recent 2007 Agrilink/Foodlink exhibit.

I’m with Ilocano housemates and they often cook meals with malunggay like tinola with malunggay and noodle soup with malunggay.
I remember telling them not to put malunggay.. but now, i think i’ll be the one to tell them to put malunggay even in adobo, sinigang, fish fillet, and other dishes! Hahahha

One of my favorite vegetable. In my native region – Negros Occidental, we used to have a vegetable and Ilonggo dish called “laswa”. One major ingredient is malunggay – topped it with okra/saluyot, squash/green papaya, sitao, ampalaya – what you get is a powerhouse of essential vitamins and minerals from this dish.
Flavor it with prawn or bagoong na hipon, mwaah!
I remember when I was a teen and very active in sports, my mother cooked “laswa” for dinner. I have had only a big bowl of “laswa” and ate it with gusto, ignoring the rice and the fried fish! After dinner I felt my spent energy of the day creeping back to my system, it was very refreshing to my being and spirit.
Eat malunggay it’s very good. I have my own family now and I cook them occasionally tinola, sopas, noodle soup….all with malunggay.

Why yucky? You have to start eating vegetables girl, its God’s creation. Its better than eating junk food and burgers. Sooner or later we will go back to the basics of eating vegetables because everything now is very expensive. I myself teach my kids to eat vegetables. God bless you.
interesting!
