Incoming RealRank to battle PageRank

2007 November 19

After reading Sir Ses’ post regarding page rank, I found out that a new ranking system is in the works.

RealRank.

RealRank data is gathered from the IZEA Toolkit “ITK” (formerly PPP Tools). It is a piece of javascript that many of you already have and those outside of PPP will be able to get from a separate site without joining PPP or SocialSpark. ITK gathers REAL traffic information, much like your analytics platform and ranks users based on their standing within the network. The formula is relatively simple.

70% weighted towards visitors per day

20% weighted towards amount of ACTIVE inbound links per day

10% weighted towards pageviews per day

We are currently working on implementing RealRank inside of the PPP platform next week. The public site will be up within two weeks.

Unlike Google, we are open to feedback. We will publish the actual formulas for all to view. If we make any changes over time based on user input you will see what those changes are and why.  We hope this becomes the most valuable site measurement tool worldwide and look forward to rolling this out.

A lot of readers of the IZEA blog post were happy about this.

The more I hear of your realrank the more I am excited to see it!! It’s a great idea and not at all what I expected when we first heard that ppp tools was going to be a big part of Argus/SocialSpark. I’m totally impressed thus far.

I’m looking forward to this Real Rank thingy. I had the shock of my life this morning when I saw my pagerank drop from 4 to a big fat Zero!

However one was not easily impressed:

Going my 70% traffic is a bad idea. There are too many ways to create false traffic for a website. Just look at all the traffic networks using bots to drive hit counters up.

RealRank is from IZEA, owners of PayPerPost which was recently slammed  by Google

RR or PR, Its ok for me (maybe coz i don’t have ads).

But I’m really confused.. My PR dropped from 5 to 4. It changed after the tension with the dropping PR subsided. And it dropped during a time when my blog was receiving more visits. My Alexa ranking also increased.

Oh well..

I blog because i want to help people be informed. I wana share what i know. And i want to be able to gather knowledge from my readers.. with or without PR.

I get what you’re saying…real rank is so much more better but i’m still unclear how it works…in the sense, i get the weightages n all, but how does it determine your ranking.

maybe i’m breaking my head too much, but after google slapped me from a PR4 to a PR 0, i’ve focused on writing good posts for readers and saw my real rank move up from 5,000 to 800!! ALSO after which I got so many available ops on both PPP and Social spark!

Trust me, write well and you’re gonna earn money no matter what!
