6233: now on firmware 5.60

I just updated my nokia 6233s firmware version to the latest firmware, 5.60.

It only took me less than 15 minutes to update it. (13 minutes connection – Corporate LAN)

That does not include the time spent on downloading the NSU from the nokia website ok. =>

One thing I hate about updating the phone’s firmware is that it destroys the set-up/positioning of your shortcut keys and menu icons. But hey.. it doesn’t happen everytime… hmmm.. so far this year, its the 4th firmware update.

So what’s new?

Hmmm.. based from what I THINK (again, this is what i think) these are the following changes- so far.

1. The Application List is now populated (I don’t recall it having anything when I click it. Or maybe i just didn’t use it. hehehe) Go To > Options > Select Options

2. The email application now has a spam filter (or was it there before and same as above, i just didn’t use it?)

3. Insert a number on the text/sms editor.

Now i like this fix.

You see, previously, when you try to insert a contact on the SMS/text editor (not the in the “To:” box ok?) the only numbers or contacts that you’ll be able to see are those which is in the sim. Now you can see even those contacts in the Phone! Create a new message > on the message field click OPTIONS > Insert Number > Search.

4. Its Faster.

I think it happens most of the time that when you update your firmware, the phone seems to be faster..

What problems are still there?

1. When creating a message and you want to get the contact from your Log, the phone restarts. Message > add > Open Log – restart!

But hey, look at the bright side, you now have a shortcut to restart your phone! hahahhaha. Use negative things positively or find a positive effect from a problem!

2. Creating SMS still doesn’t use “smart text editor”..

What i mean by that is..

Create a 2 line text message. Go to the end of the second line of your message. In other nokia phones, when you press the right navigation key (i presume you know where the right navigation key is), the cursor should go to the first letter in the first line. And vice versa: when you are in the first letter (on the first line) of your message/sms, and you press the left navigation key, it should go at the last character/last line of your messgae.

I hope you get what I mean.

3. It still doesn’t say why the message failed to send.

Unlike old phones (or maybe there are new phones) which tells you why you failed to send your emssage, either no network coverage, used up your call and text credits, network problem… I wish they’d put that back.

4. When you change themes, the personalization settings for your tones also change.

Well, this has been answered before. It because the themes are treated as separate applications.

5. Still doesn’t have a forward and rewind feature for videos.

I guess nokia can’t put this on this phone.

The only solution, either get a third party application or get a new phone!

Here are answers to queries of some users:

> The calculator is still intact.. it was never gone. I don’t know why others lost their calculator.

> Guys, where do i find the dictionary?

Some 6233 users say that teh phone has a built in dictionary and it has a dictionary menu.

From the day that i bought this phone, i didn’t see any dictionary or menu for that. But i see the t9 and its always turned off.

There is no pink line. And didn’t see one since i bought the phone.

hahahah.. Just figured this out now.

For everyone to see it. lock the phone’s keypad. Then press the dedicated camera button on the right side of the phone. Then look at the screen. it will say ” “Press ‘Unlock” then ‘OK’”, but there is no “OK’”. It should say press “*”.

So far that’s it.

So i suggest that if you’re not experiencing any problem with the version that is currently installed on your phone, then DONT UPDATE. Coz there’s no major change/s – SO FAR.

I’ll update this post as soon as i see some other changes. And i encourage you 6233 users who have upgraded to place your fixes and problems here.

I really hope nokia would release the change log for this update. my my my.. how hard is it to release the change log?
