Most Nokia phones are now made in China

June 9, 2008

Majority of the Nokia phones that I’ve seen or used are made in China…

Why? Hmmmm.. That’s easy to answer.. Low cost of production.

The N95 and N78 that I reviewed are both Made in China – even if they came all the way from London. My Nokia N82 is also made in China. I went to some stores selling Nokia phones and checked where it was manufactured and all 6 phones – yes all – are made from china.

Is this a cause of alarm for consumers? Or is it something to be happy about?

Why be alarmed? Fake mobile phones are mostly (if not all) manufactured from China. And now it’s commonly known as China phones.

So the question, are we sure that we’re getting the real Nokia Phone? =p And also, how is the quality compared to those made in other countries?

nokia tag china

I posted an article about knowing where your nokia mobile phone is made. It says there that if your phone is manufactured in Germany, its of good quality. If it was assembled in Azerbaijan then it has very Bad quality and also dangerous for your health. Now it says there “original factory which is the best Mobile Quality”. Hmmm.. i wonder where is the original factory.. Maybe its in CHINA!

Now why should we be happy about it being made in China?

Well, if the production cost is lower and higher production output – more units, then Nokia MAY – I repeat.. MAY – lower down the selling price of their units. And i think that’s what they are doing right now. Their phones are cheaper nowadays than last year or two years ago. Compare the price of a Newly released mobile phone 2 years ago and today. isn’t it much cheaper? It will rarely hit the 30k price tag.

So, is it the QUALITY or the PRICE?

Well, maybe we’re having both.. Maybe because nokia is a big company and they don’t want to sacrifice their name for low quality results, they’ve put a high level of quality control for their products. Well, if i was the head of the Company, that’s what i would do… I can’t afford to loose the market for giving out cheap and low quality products right? I can sell it cheap.. but the quality should be, at least within the standards.

For those of you who will be buying a new phone, is it OK if its made from China? Or for those who have already bought a new phone, is it made from China? If its not, I’m sure you’ve gotten it higher than the normal price. If it is… are you happy with it?

If you’ll ask me… I’ve been having some problems with my N82. Its getting slow and sometimes it freezes when i receive a text messages that it vibrates non-stop and keeps on buzzzing… What I do is i’ll turn it off and on. maybe its because of the firmware. But… then again.. its made in China! Maybe i was given this unit. hahahahha

But I haven’t brought it yet to a Nokia Service center.. I don’t have a spare phone yet. =p

Nokia is about to leave production in Europe by the end of 2012. Yet there’s factory in Hungary and Finland. They become service centers. About 7000 workers is about to lose their jobs. Now, N8, N8, E6, E7 is made in Finland. Nokia C3-01, X3-02, C5-00 and N700 is made in Hungary, far as I know. Alle other models are made in India (low ends), Korea (Lumia710), China (Lumia800), maybe for US/American market in Mexico or Brazil, where there are Nokia’s factories too (Mexican is about to close too by the 2012).

I use a Nokia 5233(low end) made in China. And even after 2 years it’s working like a charm. After falling down 10 feet on solid ground…nothing happened. Custom firmwares…hacking…from 2 years and still working. And no issues…apart from memory full error and shutdown when RAM gets full(common in all s60v5 phones). And now I’m back on official firmware 51.1.002…but hacked. And now….those shutdowns have nearly vanished!

Stop spreading rumours that China made Nokias have bad build quality.

I’m using Altec Lansing speakers(made in China) and the sound quality and build quality is great!

Products of big brands have good build quality no matter where they are made. Even iPhones and are made in China.

I want to remind that also Apple is producing it´s I-phones in China, do they get any cheaper for that reason? Not, not at alll, but Apple can pay more dividends to the shareholders.I have an N8 wich says it is “made in Finland”. This is of course their high-end unit, but we can´t be sure it is true, maybe enginered in Finland but not produced I think. After Nokia left Germany and moved production to eastern Europe, even when making billions of profit, I decided not to buy a Nokia anymore, but after two Samsungs that were expensive and very shorlived I moved back to Nokia
