Texting is a way of life. I asked the telecoms to cut the cost of messages between networks. They responded. It is now down to 50 centavos.

That’s what President Arroyo said during her State of the Nation Address (SONA) yesterday. And it was one of the most applauded part of her speech.

I’ll repeat… SMS between networks is now down to 50 centavos.

Starting yesterday, Monday – the day of the SONA, Mobile networks slashed the SMS rates to other networks from P1.00 to P0.50.

National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) director Edgardo Cabarios said the P0.50 rate cut, which took effect Monday, will be implemented until October this year.

Officials of Smart Communications Inc., Globe Telecom and Sun Cellular said they will monitor the impact of the SMS (short messaging service) rate cut before they decide on extending the PROMO.

ABS-CBN News

If you’ll remember, it was only last month that telcos were under fire for not wanting to decrease interconnectivity rates.

Pwede naman pala… Napilit din!

UPDATE:

Details about the text to others promo here.

Thanks to Brader Dom for the pic! Wahahhaha Astig brader!
