Fasting on Texting

2009 March 5

Can you not text for a day? How about a week? A month perhaps?

Well, the Catholic Bishops in Italy would like Catholics all over the world to do fasting (eating less during the days of lent) and also, on Texting.

In fact, Dioceses and Catholic groups in Modena, southern Bari and other cities have called for a ban on text messaging every Friday in Lent, which began last week with Ash Wednesday.

As a Catholic, i don’t think that fasting on texting would show that I’m a real Catholic and that I observe Lent right? I mean i can even use the best cell phones in the world as a tool to propagate the teachings of the Church and remind all my friends during Fridays to do Abstinence right?

So i suggest, instead of saying “refrain from using technology”, i think the Church should encourage Catholics to use technology for the benefit of the church.  Like what the Pope did. He now has a youtube channel right?

Wacha think? Will you refrain from texting this Lenten Season?

Texting is a way of life for Filipinos and the only way to hold yourself back from doing this thing is to not load your cellphone for the whole Lenten Season.
Of course, put it aside or not always carry it.

This is one way of not being able to text for a day, week, or even month.

That’s interesting! New age fasting… although, I don’t really text that much on my phone. I wonder if instant messaging counts though? I usually instant message on my phone with apps like qeep and skype instead of texting… guess that would count. ,)
