2007 SONA - a funny review

IN HER SEVENTH State of the Nation Address, President Arroyo stated that she’d rather be right than popular. GMA has finally accepted the fact that she cannot be a Joseph Estrada - so wrong and yet so popular. The president unveiled her administration’s “blueprint for development” for the next three years that would help the country achieve a First World status in 20 years. Yup, that blueprint is just for three years. But don’t you worry, her political advisers are starting to plan for the remaining 17 years.

For more than 45 minutes, President Arroyo enumerated the accomplishments in her “super regions.” And everyone agreed: she’s way better in geography than in economics.

Jose De Venecia remains speaker

For me, this is the worst news for the day… or maybe for the next three years.

The House of representatives under the leadership of JDV has been marked with so many wrong doings…

Even today’s events in Congress was marked with irregularities. Imagine this.. after one of the JDV allies nominated him, another ally seconded the nomination , and a third ally closed the nomination. This happened in less than 59 seconds.. That’s how hungry for power JDV is.

Wala talaga tayong kadala-dala.

Until JDV is speaker, don’t expect me to respect The House of Crocodiles Representatives.

A municipal election officer in one of the towns in Maguindanao told Newsbreak that on May 28, a Monday, Bedol asked them to submit to him all the copies of the election paraphernalia that they had in their custody. This was the day after they received summons to appear at an investigation by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) en banc.

Among the documents that Bedol asked the election officers to turn over to him “for safekeeping” were the copies for the Municipal Board of Canvassers, which municipal Comelec officers were supposed to keep for records purposes, and other election paraphernalia.

Let the show begin!

“What I can only say is that it was President Arroyo who called me to tell me that I am the candidate she will support,”  - De Venecia.

“Malacañang will keep away from that. We respect the independence of Congress. The President will not interfere and will have a hands-off attitude, in deference to the independence of the House from the executive,” - Cerge Remonde
