I blogged about a UMPC with a DVD drive last April. Its called the SR8KPO6S from Kohjinsh. But it didn’t have a price yet.
Not until today… Brace yourselves….
The Kohjinsh SR8KPO6S costs $1,399 or more than P50,000 ($1 x P43.00)
WHOAW!
That’s expensive for a UMPC. Oh, actually, its a tablet PC…
But check out the specs first…

Aside from reading news online, I also read the newspapers everyday.. There are still some articles which are only available on print.
Today, i saw an article about the Everex cloudbook with this picture..

Can you see the typewriter?.. whahahaha.. As a consumer/gadget user.. i would suggest that next time, when you feature a gadget.. make sure to put some color. =p
And oh.. if you are looking for a cloudbook here in the Philippines.. you might have a hard time finding one.. because locally, the cloudbook is known as Astone UMPC.
UPDATE:
Sorry for the confusion.. as one of my readers pointed out below.. Astone UMPC and Cloudbook are two different UMPCs.
Here are the pics…
CloudBook

Astone UMPC

See why i got confused? Hahahahha
Here’s a Comparison. Not so much difference huh?

Found an Astone UMPC at Farmers cubao.
The price of an Astone UMPC is less than P18,000.
It’s a touch screen UMPC with 1 GB memory. One thing i don’t like about it is the way it looks.. why did they put the webcam and speakers there? Oh well….

My blogger friend Dom saw a Neo Explore X1 formerly known as Neo Classmate) in one of the computer stores here in Davao City.

It looks like an OLPC!
Its supposed to be a competitor of the Asus Eee PC… but based from Dom’s review… i think only kids will like it.

I’m sure by now you’ve heard or read the initials UMPC. Its stands for Ultra Mobile PC.
For me, a UMPC device is one that is small, lightweight, has and performs functions of a PC and a mobile device.
But if you want a more standard version, maybe this one from Wikipedia would fit:
previously known by its codename Project Origami, is a specification for a small form factor tablet PC. It was developed as a joint development exercise by Microsoft, Intel, and Samsung, among others. Current UMPCs feature the Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005, Windows Vista Home Premium Edition, or Linux operating system and low-voltage Intel Pentium or VIA C7-M processors in the 1 GHz range.
There are a lot of UMPC devices out there now. Specially this year, now that the Consumer Electronics Show is happening, there are even more UMPCs to come out.
According to Register Hardware, the pic you see here is the first UMPC device, even before UMPC was launched in 2006.
I won’t put here about the history of UMPCs, you can check out the wikipedia page for that. I think you are more interested to see the UMPC devices. Read more »
